Blending nature with art and form
Adventures transformed into art
Adventures transformed into art
I grew up exploring the world and was instilled with a love of nature and endless curiosity by my family. After backpacking in the Himalayas, sea kayaking through archipelagos in Patagonia, exploring temples in Cambodia, and diving with sea lions off the coast of Baja, I decided 15 years ago that Bozeman, Montana was where I would call home.
I am currently pursuing a PhD at Montana State University in Molecular Immunology with art being an essential part of my life, it opens my mind to endless inspiration and creativity that manifest in the most unique ways. I have two incredibly curious kids that are my joy and motivation, seeing the world through their eyes has been wonderfully enlightening.
My art is a blend of nature and form, with natural fibers being my main focus. The wool I use is hand dyed using methods that reduce ecological impact and supports small organic farms. The connection to nature is felt through the handspun loosely processed yarn that varies as much in texture as it does in color. Once a piece has been knit, I then hand felt each piece creating a material that is durable and resilient, yet beautiful and unique.
The colors I choose remind me of the beauty of the places I've been. The bright blues of the sea in French Polynesia, the rich golden earth tones of the desert in Joshua Tree, the bright reds and purples of festivals in Indonesia, and deep blue paired with yellow reminds me of campfires high in the Sierra Nevada’s.
Even when I am far away from the outdoors, creating my art reminds me that nature is always close, and my next adventure is never too far away.
